Featured Wind Phone Lehighton, Pennsylvania

Weekly, I shine a light on the story of a beautifully created and placed Wind Phone. Sharing our stories makes a difference because it's in the telling that we connect and heal. To not cloud the Wind Phone creator's message, the format for Featured Phones is to share their answers to the interview questions verbatim.

This week's Featured Phone is located in Leighton, Pennsylvania: Diane Szwajkowski created this beautiful phone in memory of her mother Ann Cassidy Burns. Thank you for sharing your Wind Phone with us.

Where is your Wind Phone located?

Lehighton, Pennsylvania

Please email me for directions at www.facebook.com/DoulaDiAnn.

Why did you choose this location?

I created a memorial garden years ago as a place I can go to mediate and be with my loved ones. Placing my Wind Phone in this garden allows me and those who visit another tool for our grief healing. As an End-of-Life Doula I am aware of the importance of healing for all. My Wind Phone is a great tool for myself as well as anyone who comes to visit.

What year and month did you place your Wind Phone at this location?

May 2023

Is your Wind Phone dedicated or in memory of someone special?

My Wind Phone is dedicated to my Mother Ann Cassidy Burns. My Mother was my best friend and I enjoyed talking to her on the phone most every day. She came to live with me in her final last months of life. I was grateful for this time with her. She would often look out the window and say what a beautiful place we lived in. Now, I can use my wind phone to keep our conversations going. I became and End of Life Doula because of all my losses, hers being the biggest loss.

Do you have any advice for someone thinking of creating a Wind Phone?

Do it! The journey of the creation is a story in its own. It was a pleasure speaking with the folks who “donated” their phone for this project. This project was a gift my husband made for my Mother’s Day gift, for honoring my mother. It was a great project with lasting benefits.

Is there anything you’d like to share that I didn’t think of asking?

It is amazing how comfortable it is to talk on a wind phone. It is as if the person is truly on the other end of the line. Clients of mine have shared this as well.
