This week's Featured Phone is in North Bay, Ontario, Canada; Wendy created this beautiful Wind Phone dedicated to her sister Catherine, who leaves behind five children. The Wind Phone is a space for the kids to “talk to their mom and tell her all their adventures while growing up and learning.” Thank you, Wendy, for sharing this beautiful story of your phone with us.

Weekly, I shine a light on the story of a beautifully created and placed Wind Phone. Sharing our stories makes a difference because it's in doing so that we connect and heal. To not cloud the Wind Phone creator's message, the format for Featured Phones is to share their answers to the interview questions verbatim.

Where is your Wind Phone located?

North Bay, Ontario, Canada

Coordinates: 46.34180801539762, -79.46902150510805

Our phone is located on a trail overlooking the city. You can park at the end of Cochrane Road (off Cedar Heights Drive). The phone is located approx. A 6-minute walk down the trail on the right-hand side, close to the waterfall by the highway.

What year and month did you place your Wind Phone at this location?

October 2023

Why did you choose this location?

This location was special because it’s quiet yet overlooks the city.

Is your Wind Phone dedicated or in memory of someone special?

This phone is dedicated to Catherine. Catherine was my sister who was taken from us too soon at the age of 32. Catherine loved life and always saw the positive side of things. Her laughter still echoes in the wind. She had five young children who meant the world to her. The best parts of her are still here in them, although she is gone.

Her loss was unexpected, and processing grief is hard, especially for children. Her children wanted a space to talk to their mom and tell her all their adventures while growing up and learning.

Do you have any advice for someone considering creating a Wind Phone?

Creating this phone was therapeutic. The whole process was new to us. We laughed, we cried, we hoped, all while building it. I hope more people decide to make them as it’s a very special grieving tool.

I'd love to feature your phone! You can find all the information here to submit your Wind Phone.
