There is a unique story behind each Wind Phone that is best told by its creator and/or steward. No one can tell it the way they can, so to that end, the format for Featured Wind Phone stories is to share the creator/steward's responses to the interview questions verbatim in their own voice. Sharing our stories helps us to connect and heal and may inspire someone else to create or visit a Wind Phone.

This week's Featured Wind Phone is in Sundridge, Ontario, Canada. The story behind why Amanda and Jeff Wilson created this beautiful Wind Phone will touch your heart. Thank you both for sharing your Wind Phone with us.Â
Where is your Wind Phone located?
189 Angus Point Rd.
Sundridge ON, CanadaÂ
It is hidden in the woods of our 6-acre property. We just recently built an a-frame rental cottage.
What year and month did you place your Wind Phone at this location?
April 2024, although I had been working on the idea for well over a year!
Why did you choose this location?
My husband and his brother lived in the Muskoka area when they were young. His grandparents bought a large plot of land and gifted each of their children 5 acres. Some of them built homes there, so Jeff has very fond memories of his brother and family members building homes and growing up there. After Scott was killed in the accident Jeff found comfort being in nature, he still had family living in the area, so we started spending more and more time up North and made an amazing group of friends who we love so much. Our family all fell in love with the area over the next couple of years and then on a whim we bought some land. One thing led to another, and we ended up building our dream cottage. It was a very therapeutic experience for all of us, especially Jeff who spent a lot of time alone working on making this dream come a reality. We often find signs from Scott and Leaira and feel they lead us here, like it was meant to be! So, as you can imagine this spot is so special to us and there is no better place for the Wind Phone to be! Â
Is your Wind Phone dedicated or in memory of someone special?
This is in memory of Scott and Leaira Wilson who, were tragically killed in a drunk driving accident in 2018. Scott is Jeff's older brother and was indeed a talker. There was no better way to celebrate him than to have a Wind Phone. Scott lived in Alberta, Canada, so his favorite thing was to call home and talk! Leaira, Scott's daughter, was a beautiful little girl with the most gorgeous blond hair. She was a Daddy's girl and had a very special bond with her big brother Ryker. Both Scott and Leaira are missed dearly by all of us. We have dedicated our lives to living with more purpose, love, and adventure and we know Scott and Leaira are leading the way! Â
Do you have any advice for someone thinking of creating a Wind Phone?
If you're thinking of it, do it. What a beautiful way to allow space for anyone who is grieving to feel the comfort of calling "home" to their loved ones. We specifically wanted to put the Wind Phone at our rental property so that anyone staying there who may stumble across it could potentially have a moment of their own to talk, share, or just sit and have a moment. Imagine all the people who may need something exactly like this to give them some comfort.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
On a personal note, I just wanted to say thank you for doing what you do. Giving people the opportunity to find an outlet to grieve is simply amazing. Sending you so much love during your grieving process, you are clearly an amazing mom!Â
I'd love to feature your phone! You can find all the information here to submit your Wind Phone.
