"This is why it doesn't work to just install a phone box anywhere in the world and call it a Wind Phone. There are certain conditions that are necessary for it to work, and these have to be created."
-Itaru Sasaki
“When words of love are carried on the wind, no one grieves alone.”
Help Love Continue on the Wind
My Wind Phone began as a deeply personal act of love after the loss of my daughter, Emily. In the quiet of grief, I remembered the story of the original Wind Phone in Japan, a place where people speak to loved ones they miss and let the wind carry their words. I remember thinking: if anyone is answering their phone in heaven, it’s Emily. That thought stayed with me, and I began sharing Wind Phones because I believed that if they helped me, perhaps they might help someone else, too.
Over the past four years, I have worked on My Wind Phone every day building the website, creating resources, mapping Wind Phones, answering messages, and supporting people who want to create these spaces in their own communities. I continue to dedicate hours to this work each week, constantly updating and improving the site so it can better serve those who find their way here. Along the way, I also created supportive communities on Facebook and Instagram, where people from around the world connect, share stories, and support one another in their grief.
What began as a small act of hope has grown into something far larger than I ever imagined. Today, My Wind Phone is a global resource, welcoming thousands of visitors each month. It helps guide people to Wind Phones around the world, inspires new creators, and connects a growing community of people who believe that love does not end.
The website has become one of the leading sources for discovering and learning about Wind Phones, offering a global map, resources for creators, stories of remembrance, and guidance for those seeking comfort. I have always done this work for love, not for profit. My hope has simply been to create and maintain a space where people can find comfort, connection, and hope.
I have always done this work for love, not for profit. My hope has simply been to create and maintain a space where people can find comfort, connection, and hope. Maintaining and growing this space the map, the resources, the technology, and the outreach requires ongoing care.
Donations help support website maintenance, improvements, technology, and long-term development so this resource can continue to grow and remain available to those who need it. Every contribution goes directly back into sustaining and improving My Wind Phone so it can continue serving this global community.
After four years of building this work as a labor of love, the time has come to ask for help so this space can continue to grow and reach even more people who may be searching for it. With your help, My Wind Phone can continue guiding grieving hearts to places where love can still be spoken.
With love and gratitude,
