There is a unique story behind each Wind Phone that is best told by its creator and/or steward. No one can tell it the way they can, so to that end, the format for Featured Wind Phone stories is to share the creator/steward's responses to the interview questions verbatim in their voice. Sharing our stories helps us to connect and heal and may inspire someone else to create or visit a Wind Phone.

Our Featured Wind Phone is in Scappoose, Oregon. Thank you Bailey Feakin for sharing the story of your beautiful Wind Phone. Bailey is also the creator of a gorgeous Wind Phone located at McCormick Park in St. Helens, Oregon.
This Wind Phone honors all Veterans, past and present, with love and gratitude.
Where is your Wind Phone located?
Scappoose Veteran's Park
52590 Captain Roger Kucera Way
Scappoose, OR 97056
The Wind Phone is located at Veterans Park in Scappoose, Oregon. As you enter the park by turning onto Captain Roger Kucera Way from JP West Rd, the Wind Phone is located on your left along the paved pathway between the Veterans/Armed Forces Monument site, and the bocce ball courts. There is one handicap parking space directly next to the monument, additional street parking, and a parking lot further down the road near the playground. Bathrooms are located in the center of the park between the two baseball fields.
What year and month did you place your Wind Phone at this location?
This Wind Phone was unveiled on Nov. 11th, 2025, during a Veterans Day Ceremony.
Why did you choose this location?
This park was chosen in collaboration with the City of Scappoose due to its ability to provide both privacy and accessibility to the public while using the Wind Phone. It is a beautiful park that is well-maintained. There is a creek that runs alongside the park, along with many other amenities such as a playground, a dog park, picnic structures and benches, baseball fields, bocce ball courts, and plenty of parking. The location of the Wind Phone within the park is next to a Veterans Monument, offering a serene and reflective location.
Is your Wind Phone dedicated or in memory of someone special?
This Wind Phone is dedicated to all Veterans past and current. This was decided in part with collaboration from the City of Scappoose and the Scappoose VFW due to the location of the Wind Phone near the Veterans Monument in the park, but primarily to honor this community and bring awareness to community resources as well, such as mental health care, primary care, crisis response, grief support and Veteran resources just to name a few. I was personally inspired to create this Wind Phone after experiencing some of my own losses within the last few years, and after hearing about Wind Phones in a local news article in Sept of 2024. As someone who works in mental health and has a passion for grief work, I felt a pull to expand grief resources within our community of Columbia County, Oregon, and my workplace, Columbia Health Services, graciously funded this project in support of the awareness it would bring to the community.
Do you have any advice for someone thinking of creating a Wind Phone?
If you are thinking of creating a Wind Phone, don’t be afraid to reach out to community organizations, local businesses or government to see who might want to partner with you and collaborate. Wonderful things can happen when the invitation is presented, and communication by word-of-mouth can go a long way. Use the resources for letters/brochures/signage/etc from the My Wind Phone website! They were amazing tools in this process.
Is there anything you'd like to share that I didn't think of adding to this list of questions?
I feel so much more connected to my community through the process of creating this Wind Phone. I see it only growing from here, and I am working to create another one in another nearby town in Columbia County as well.
