Every Wind Phone holds a story, one that is best told by the person who created or cares for it. No one can share it quite the way they can. For that reason, Featured Wind Phone stories are presented in the creator or steward’s own words, shared just as they were written. When we share our stories, we create connection, offer comfort, and sometimes inspire someone else to create or visit a Wind Phone of their own.

Our Featured Wind Phone is in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin
At the heart of every Wind Phone is a story of love, loss, and connection. Hazel Flint-Jones, founder of Mattie’s Memory, created this Wind Phone dedicated to her son Matthew and as an extension of her dedication to supporting families experiencing the heartbreak of pregnancy and infant loss. Hazel understands the deep and lasting impact grief can have on parents and families. As a trained bereavement doula and midwife, she has spent years supporting local organizations and families through difficult journeys in pregnancy and childbirth, offering compassion, dignity, and remembrance when it is needed most. Thank you, Hazel, for sharing your Wind Phone journey with us.
Where is your Wind Phone located?
8335 Old Spring St
Mount Pleasant WI 53406
What year and month did you place your Wind Phone at this location?
October 2025
Why did you choose this location?
My organization chose this location as it was part of the memorial garden that was created for families who had experienced the loss of a child during pregnancy and infancy, it is a very tranquil area with seating, beautiful windchimes and just has a safe and calming feeling.
Is your Wind Phone dedicated or in memory of someone special?
It is dedicated to my son Matthew who was stillborn at 21 weeks, he came silently into the world on July 28, 2012, and the idea of a Wind Phone is just perfect silent communication from us to the heavens. It is also dedicated in memory of the families who come to my organization looking for support and love after the deaths of their own children.
Do you have advice for someone thinking of creating a Wind Phone?
There is no wrong or right way to create the Wind Phone, do what makes you feel comfortable and what makes your heart feel is right. We added bereavement resources to ours and a couple of notebooks in case someone needs to write things or resources are needed. Your heart will know what you need there and what feels right
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Community involvement, when I had mentioned wanting to do this the outreach from the loss community was amazing giving ideas finding phones etc. the outpouring of love was great and despite the short time it has been up, I have had messages from other people inspired. And even if they aren't making their own phone public, they are using old phones and making a quiet space for themselves to talk to loved ones

I'd love to feature your phone! You can find all the information here to submit your Wind Phone.
